History of the small private mansion “le Clos de la Chapelle”
At the beginning of the 14th century, the place belonged to the tanners, a rich and religious brotherhood. The construction of a small private chapel would have been used for the brotherhood’s small religious services.
In the 17th century, the chapel was integrated into the Domaine des Augustines.
In the middle of the 18th century (the Age of Enlightenment), merchant owners built a new building on the coast of rue Saint Jean, adjoining the original building.
During the French Revolution (end of the 18th century), the chapel, which no longer belonged to the Augustinians, was attached to the property of the merchants.
In the 19th century, the “Clos de la Chapelle” became a small private mansion with its servants.
The various wars spared the city of Bayeux, thus protecting its magnificent real estate assets.
In 2012, all the accommodation has been completely restored into high quality accommodation and the small abandoned chapel was rebuilt in 2017 as a prestigious guest house.
Today, the hotel “Le Clos de la Chapelle Spa” is a charming and comfortable guest house
